2007 GT500

The Ford SVT group has come back from a break in production and has created a vehicle that is certain to become big among driving enthusiasts. The Shelby Cobra GT500 has been created with a mixture of classic style and modern day aerodynamic abilities. One of those abilities is to being given the gift of 450+ horsepower, which is the highest stock horsepower of any known Mustang.

The 2007 GT500 has been given a 5.4 liter engine with a cast iron black, aluminum cylinder heads, aluminum intake manifold, a forged steel crankshaft, forged aluminum pistons, and forced steel connection rods. The main parts that are attributed to the horsepower comes from the top mounted aluminum Whipple screw style supercharger, which delivers 8.5 pounds per square inch.

The cylinder heads have been specifically designed, originally for the Ford GT, to funnel air efficiently and allow for the most possible flow being forced through from the supercharger. The intake manifold is also special built to be extra low-profile to allow more room for the supercharger, and the twin bore throttle body, controlled by the electronic fuel management system.

The inside of the vehicle was given a vintage style, but the technology is still modern. The dashboard is made with brushed aluminum trim rings around the 4 blower vents and around the tachometer and the speedometer. It comes with a three spoke steering wheel and these spokes meet at a center horn button, which displays the Cobra logo bordered by the Shelby and GT 500 nomenclature. They decided to create all of the technology aspects of the vehicle, such as the stereo and power windows, to be modern and state of the art so that the driver won’t feel completely like they are in a race car.

The body of the GT500 differs from the 2005 GT model without losing any of the vintage styling that is connected to these particular vehicles. They have made it appealing enough to attract anyone’s attention without losing the classic styling. The headlight bezels are angled in, as are the areas around the outward mounted fog lights, which have been a trademark for several generations of the SVT Cobras.

The brand new grille style gives us a larger grille area to allow for maximum air intake for cooling, with an egg-crate style forward angled grille, and complex reflector halogen headlamps with integral parking/turn signals. This new grille allows the supercharger to suck in as much as possible, with few restrictions in air flow.

This new GT500 has the traditional GT500 stripe that runs along the lower rocker panel. Also the classic twin stripes run across the top of the car. These designs have been around since the classic GT cars have been around. The GT500 also shows off a special hood with integrated air extractors to move hot air away from the engine as quickly and as efficiently as possible. The trunk lid comes with a subtle yet sporty molded spoiler, and just below it, the Shelby name, with the Cobra “Gas cap” style logo just under, which is all displayed in polished silver.
