Saleen’s 302 Cubic Inch V8 Offered As Crate Engine
Saleen has made mustang enthusiasts an offer that they can’t refuse. They are offering the 302 cubic inch V8 as a crate engine. This has been a long time coming and many enthusiasts are more than happy to welcome the new addition into the 5.0 legacy.
The engine comes in two different models; the naturally-aspirated and the supercharged model. The supercharged model was tested in the Saleen S302E Mustang and the naturally-aspirated was tested in the Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang. The supercharged model was proven to be too powerful to seriously think about using it in a car that is taken everywhere. For your everyday vehicle you want to stick to the naturally-aspirated model.
The base engine for both models started out as one of Ford’s 4.6 liter modular blocks. But after careful planning and hard labor it was given ported aluminum heads, bigger injectors, camshafts, forged-steel crank, forged aluminum pistons, and has been made the required five liters. Power is something that refused to skimp on. The level range of horsepower that it can punch out ranges from 390 to 580 all depending on the choices that you make when picking out the options you want.
